Top tips on submitting a successful grant application.

When applying for a WRVS grant, the only requirements are that you have volunteered or worked for the WVS, WRVS or Royal Voluntary Service and are on a limited income.

You can apply for a grant directly, or you can ask a friend or family member to make the application for you. Either way, we want your application to be approved, so we have written this handy guide to give you our top tips on submitting a successful grant application.

  1. Download our grant application form.

All grant applications must be submitted via the completion of our grant application form which you can download from our website.
For your convenience, we have added a link to the application form right here for you.
Download the form by clicking on the link and then print it out.

Please note that we are unable to consider grant applications via any other means.

     2. Find a black pen!

As with most official form filling, you need to fill the form in with a black pen, so make sure you have got one to hand before you start.
When completing your details, it is also beneficial if you PRINT names, addresses and other important information to ensure that it is clear and cannot be misread when we are reviewing your application.

      3. Read through the form.
Before you start filling in the form it will save you time in the long run if you read through the form first and make sure that you have all the information to hand needed to complete it.
It is important that you fully complete all the details in order for us to give your application due consideration.

      4. Consult the last page!
If you have not already done so at step 3 above, be sure to read the last page of the application form before you start filling it in. It includes some useful information about answering some of the questions regarding your financial situation and references.

      5. Allow plenty of time.
After reading through the application form, you will know what you need and can prepare, so that you have all the information available.
When you have everything you need to hand, allow yourself a quiet half hour or so when you can sit down quietly and fill in the application form without any distractions.

     6. Include all relevant information.
When completing your application form, be sure to answer all the questions asked on the form in full. For example:

  • Include information about yourself and your involvement with the WVS/WRVS/RVS and any references.
  • Make sure you provide two estimates for the items you wish to purchase with the grant money.
  • If you have any connections with the armed forces, please do not forget to fill this part of the application as we work closely with SAAFA.

Without full details we are unable to consider your application, so if in doubt it is always best to err on the side of caution and provide too much information.

       7. Get your family or friends to check your application.
Another pair of eyes on your application form will help ensure that you have not missed anything, so ask someone else to double check it for you carefully.

Top Tip: Don’t forget – if you are struggling to complete your application you can ask a family member or friend to complete it for you.

       8. Don’t forget to sign and date it!
This tip sounds obvious we know, but you would be surprised how many applications are not signed in both places. Make sure you have signed and dated both the permission slip on page 2 and the acknowledgement page on page 5.

      9. Post or email your completed application.
You can submit your completed application to us via email or post:

Top Tip: If you are posting your application we would strongly advise you to make a photocopy of the form and all supporting documents before you post it just in case it should go missing in the post. Saving a copy of the completed application will save you no end of time and headaches if you need to re-submit it.

We hope this brief guide helps you complete your grant application with ease, but if you have any further queries, please call us on 07968 098 275. You will probably go through to our voicemail, but if you leave a message, please be assured that we will call you back as soon as we can. We are always happy to help.

Finally, one last point worth mentioning: we assure you that we will deal with your grant application in the strictest confidence.

Good luck in submitting a successful grant application!

If you know of a family member, friend or neighbour who would also benefit from a grant and you are aware that they have worked or volunteered for WVS or WRVS at any time, why not submit an application for them too?
